Warranty

Coulée Coffee offers a standard 1 year (parts & labor) warranty on our coffee systems

How to use the system?
  • It's really easy....Fill the top with water, open and place EcoPour on the SWIRL arm, place an empty cup on the tray, press brew!
  • Please follow this instructional video for more detailed instructions.
  • Refer to the this Quickstart Guide for introductory usage.

QuickStart Guide

  • Refer to the SWIRL User Manual for detailed usage.

User Manual

How long does the brew take?

With a Coulée Coffee filled EcoPour (14g) and water filled to the top of the island (for Golden Cup coffee ratios), the brew will take ~4minutes as is standard with a pour over.  If you fill the water to the top of the reservoir (13oz), it may take an additional minute.

Pump continues running after water drains from reservoir (system makes bubbling noise while brewing)

After the water transfers from the top reservoir to the boiler, the pump continues to run to aerate/percolate the water in the boiler.  This creates a mixing effect for the water in the boiler so that the water is perfectly (and consistently) heated throughout.  This is a huge advantage of the SWIRL system compared to other systems as they can have huge (20+ degree) gradient differences in temperature of the water in their boilers.  A predictable, target temperature is a key to making the best cup of coffee possible.

Cleaning/Maintenance/De-Calcify
  • As coffee doesn't enter the system, the system doesn't need significant cleaning, other than a wipe-down of the exterior and a clean of residue in the drip tray.
  • We recommend running a decalcify process cycle every 3-6 months, depending on the hardness of your water.
  • Detailed instructions can be found in the User Manual
  • Briefly:
    • Load the top reservoir (to the top of the island) with household vinegar or acetic acid cleaning solution.
    • Place large (13oz+) empty cup on the tray.
    • Press and hold the brew button followed immediately by pressing the power button (simultaneously).
    • After ten minutes, the cleaning solution will drain to cup.  Dump the cup.
    • Fill the reservoir to the top with water, press brew
    • After 30 seconds, the water will drain to the cup.  Dump the water
    • Fill the reservoir to the top with water, press brew
    • After 30 seconds, the water will drain to the cup.  Dump the water.
    • The system is ready for use!
Can I make Tea or Hot Chocolate?

Yes! The system will (very quickly) heat and dispense hot water.  You can simply load the top reservoir with water and press and hold the brew button until you hear a long beep (about 3 seconds, release at that point).  The water will transfer to the boiler, heat, and dispense.  Because coffee never enters the SWIRL system, there is no "coffee taste" to the hot water (as with other systems).  You can also load tea into an empty Ecopour and do the same thing.  The tea will be well-extracted by the constant, direct contact of the hot water with the tea leaves.  Once the water has been fully dispensed, the EcoPour can be removed and placed on top of the cup to allow for a longer steep (stronger tea).

Can I grind my own coffee?

Yes! We sell empty Vpacs/EcoPours for use with your own coffee.  We generally recommend grinding the coffee to a coarse drip-grind and filling the EcoPour with 14g of coffee.  If  fine grinds or significantly greater amounts of coffee are used, there is a possible risk of overflow during the brew.

What’s the best way to make an Iced Coffee?

Fill the water reservoir with just enough water to make the “Water” light turn green.  Fill ~12oz cup of with ice and place it under the spigot/coffee filter.  Press Brew.

My coffee is too strong

Filling water to the top of the island gives a water:coffee ratio of ~16:1 for a recommended, "golden cup" ratio.  However, if you prefer lighter coffee, simply fill the water higher in the reservoir.

My coffee is too weak

Filling water to the top of the island gives a water:coffee ratio of ~16:1 for a recommended, "golden cup" ratio.  However, if you prefer stronger coffee, put less water in the reservoir.

My travel mug/cup doesn't fit under the nozzle!!!

No problem.  We designed the system so that you can move the drip tray to fit larger mugs for brewing.  Just pull the tray out and place your mug underneath the nozzle.

I unplugged the system before the brew finished.  What do I do?  Can I drain it?

No problem.  Place an empty mug on the tray and then press and hold the brew button until you hear a long beep (release at that point).  If there is water in the boiler, the system will detect it, beep several times, and drain the water.  Please check the cup light is green as the system won't drain the water if the cup light is red.

The cup light is stuck on (or off)

If there is a cup on the tray, try pulling it all the way out and then placing it again.  Otherwise, the lens might be dirty.  Take a damp, soft cloth and gently clean the lens (round circle on the front panel of the system).  Do NOT use an abrasive cleaning cloth (scrub/sponge, etc) as you can scratch the lens.

Can I pinch my finger on the SWIRL arm?

No.  The SWIRL arm is driven by a very low torque motor.  It simply stops (or reverses) when bumped.

The SWIRL arm rotates in different directions/reverses

That's normal!  The The SWIRL arm is driven by a very low torque motor.  It simply stops (or reverses) when bumped.  And, it can start arbitrarily in any direction.

Can I add any other liquid (re-run coffee, milk, etc) to the reservoir?

No!  Adding anything other than water can affect the system performance, contaminate the system, and will void the warranty.

The swirl arm isn't functioning properly

Be sure the top and bottom surfaces of the SWIRL arm (where it enters the system) are free of coffee or debris.  Clean off any obvious debris and dry the area.  You can used compressed/canned air to blow the area clean.

I pressed the power and the Brew button simultaneously and now the system seems stuck on

Pressing the Power and Brew button together puts the system in the descaling mode (a 10 minute cycle).  To exit it, unplug the system, plug it back in, place an empty cup on the tray, and press and hold the brew button until you hear the long beep (~3seconds).  The system will drain any water that was loaded into the boiler.  At that point, the system will be ready to use again.
